Beck, 21, has played six NHL games for the Canadiens this season but has not picked up a point. He clearly left enough of an impression that he is the one getting recalled following the 4 Nations Face-Off break. Even with the return of Emil Heineman, the team had an open roster spot and choose Beck rather than adding an additional defender.
Beck has 13 goals and 19 assists in 47 AHL games this season.
The Canadiens play on Tuesday night when they host the Carolina Hurricanes. The Rocket play on Wednesday afternoon in Toronto against the Marlies with the Canadiens hosting the San Jose Sharks on Thursday. Both teams play on Saturday, the Rocket at home and the Canadiens in Buffalo.
Montreal has several forwards who have been missing practice, which might be why Beck is the one to be recalled. The team also announced that Kirby Dach has a lower body injury, will be undergoing further evaluation and is confirmed out for Tuesday’s game.
In a corresponding move, the Rocket recalled forward Jakov Novak from the Trois-Rivières Lions. Novak leads the Lions in scoring with 20 goals and 26 assists in 39 games.
