The Montreal Canadiens have recalled forward Joel Armia from the Laval Rocket and assigned Filip Mesar to the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League, the team announced on Saturday morning.

Armia started the season with the Rocket after clearing waivers, and had a very good start to the season. He had four goals and one assist through the first four games in the AHL. The team did not have an extra forward after Kirby Dach’s injury for the remainder of the season.

The team also assigned Filip Mesar, the team’s second first-round pick in 2022, to the Ontario Hockey League. Mesar had one assist in two AHL games, and clearly the team would rather him develop in a place where his offensive game will have an opportunity to be displayed, rather than playing low in the lineup in the AHL.

Mesar had 17 goals and 34 assists (51 points) in 52 games in his first OHL season last year.
