The Montreal Canadiens are coming out of the holiday break with a roster move, recalling goaltender Jakub Dobeš from the Laval Rocket on Friday.

UPDATE: The team announced later that Dobeš will start against the Florida Panthers on Saturday afternoon and that the team will place Cayden Primeau on waivers.

Dobeš will join the team on their Florida trip which has back to back games against the Florida Panthers on Saturday and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday. This likely means that Dobeš will play in one of the two games as Samuel Montembeault has been played a lot over the last week, including three games in four nights.

The Canadiens had a roster spot available, so they do not need to make an immediate decision on Cayden Primeau or send anyone else down, but will put Primeau on waivers when the NHL’s roster freeze ends on Saturday.

UPDATE: Primeau was placed on waivers on Saturday afternoon.

Dobeš, 23, is being called up to the NHL for the first time. He has a 9-3-1 record with the Laval Rocket this season, sporting a 2.44 goals against average and .910 save percentage. He was the Canadiens’ fifth-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft.
