The Montreal Canadiens have recalled defenceman Adam Engström from the Laval Rocket on Monday, the team announced.
UPDATE (9am Eastern, March 31): We now have more context on why the Montreal Canadiens recalled Engström, announcing on Tuesday morning that Alexandre Carrier will be out 2-4 weeks with an upper-body injury.
Engström has played 11 NHL games this season, still in search for his first point. He has played 45 games for the Rocket, scoring 10 goals and adding 25 assists. This was not an emergency recall, so it does not appear that there was a corresponding injury. What this may tell us is that the experiment of Arber Xhekaj playing forward may continue.
After missing a few games with an injury, Engström returned to the Rocket lineup and will serve as depth for the Canadiens. Montreal plays the division-leading Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday before heading North to finish their road trip at Madison Square Garden against the New York Rangers on Thursday before facing the New Jersey Devils on Saturday.
The team practices in Tampa on Tuesday morning.
