The Montreal Canadiens have crossed another restricted free agent off their list, re-signing defenceman William Trudeau to a one-year, two-way contract on Thursday.

Trudeau, 22, was the Canadiens fourth-round pick in 2021 (113th overall). He has yet to make his NHL debut. He had five goals and 14 assists in 68 regular season games last season and added three assists in eight playoff games. The left-shot defenceman is one of the more physical defenders on the Rocket, and his injury in the playoffs left a hole that cost them in the Eastern Conference final.

He has 20 goals and 50 assists in 198 career AHL games.

He is the second restricted free agent to re-sign with the team since being qualified, joining Sean Farrell. The team still needs to come to terms with Jakub Dobeš and Jayden Struble. The fifth RFA who was qualified was goaltender Cayden Primeau who was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes and since signed a contract with them.
