Montreal Canadiens place five players on waivers

The Canadiens have whittled down the roster to something closer to an opening-night formation.

On Sunday afternoon, the Montreal Canadiens further reduced their training camp roster after cutting 25 players the previous night. Five players were placed on waivers with the aim of getting them to the Laval Rocket’s training camp.

Alex Belzile, Nate Clurman, Lucas Condotta, Marc Del Gaizo, and Sean Farrell were exposed to the waiver wire, where they will be claimable by other NHL teams for 24 hours. Should the clear, they will then be assigned to the AHL. The move leaves 29 players on the training camp roster, which needs to be reduced to 23 by the start of the season.
