Montreal Canadiens officially sign D Jakub Jerabek

The Montreal Canadiens officially announced the signing of former KHL defenceman Jakub Jerabek to a one-year contract.

Due to the CBA, Jerabek could only sign a one-year contract.

The AAV for the contract will be a base $925,000.

The move was reported last week by R Sport, a Russian news agency and we talked about the team’s interest in him. Jerabek is from the Czech Republic and played last year at the World Championships with Tomas Plekanec. He had five assists in the Worlds last year.

Jerabek is a left-handed shot. He is 25, and had five goals and 29 assists (34 points) in 59 games for Vityaz Podolsk. He is listed at 5’11, 190 lbs and has a lot of offensive skill and with that comes concerns about his defensive play.

He added a goal and an assist in four playoff games. It was his first season in the KHL. His 34 points were good for fifth among KHL defencemen.

Before moving to the KHL, he played in the Czech Extraliga, and had 99 points in 308 career games.

His agent, Michal Sivek, posted this picture of him making it official.

Jerabek had the choice of several NHL teams, much like his countryman Michal Kempny, who the Habs were reportedly also interested in.
