Montreal Canadiens lines at training camp: January 4

Montreal Canadiens training camp opened on Monday, and there were already some clues as to how the team expects to lineup to start the season.

Tomas Tatar, who was not expected to be at practice due to quarantine rules, was on the ice and took his expected spot next to Phillip Danault and Brendan Gallagher.

The first group of goaltenders included Carey Price, Jake Allen, and Michael McNiven.

Other lines in the opening group included Tyler Toffoli with Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Joel Armia. Jonathan Drouin and Nick Suzuki were joined by Josh Anderson. Ryan Poehling skated with Jordan Weal and Michael Frolik. Jake Evans skated with Paul Byron and Artturi Lehkonen.

The eight defenceman in the first group were Ben Chiarot, Shea Weber, Jeff Petry, Joel Edmundson, Alexander Romanov, Brett Kulak, Xavier Ouellet, and Victor Mete.

The pairings were Chiarot with Weber, Petry with Edmundson, and Kulak with Romanov. Ouellet and Mete were the extra pair.

It certainly looks like the first group is lining up with what very well could be the team’s opening night lineup.

Corey Perry is still in quarantine, and will start practicing with the team on Tuesday.

The second group will start practice at 12:30 p.m.
