Kaiden Guhle has appendix removed, will be re-evaluated in a week

The Montreal Canadiens announced that defender Kaiden Guhle had surgery to remove his appendix yesterday and will be re-evaluated in seven days.

Guhle played in 70 games last season, and while the timing of this isn’t great, he should be back within a few weeks as that is the expected recovery time from the removal. Guhle missed the last seven games of the season with a head injury suffered against the Tampa Bay Lightning. The other games he missed were due to a one-game suspension and knee injury.

This will provide an additional chance for some of the younger defenders on the Canadiens to get playing time early in the pre-season, although they lose the chance to have someone develop chemistry with a player like Guhle, who will surely be on one of the top two pairings when healthy.

The Canadiens start training camp on Thursday after medical tests on Wednesday. Their first pre-season game is Monday at the Bell Centre against the Philadelphia Flyers.
