The Montreal Canadiens have hired Luke Richardson as an NHL assistant coach.
The Ottawa native boasts over 600 games of NHL and AHL coaching experience on his resume.

Richardson brings with him a wealth of playing and coaching experience. Richardson was most recently an assistant coach with the New York Islanders. He was also the head coach of the Ottawa Senators’ AHL affiliate from 2012-13 to 2015-16, posting a record of 153-120-31 in 304 games. He played over 1,400 NHL games over 21 seasons.
“We’re very pleased with the hiring of Luke Richardson as an assistant coach. Luke has tremendous experience, both as a player in the NHL and as a coach. He also had the opportunity to work internationally with Hockey Canada, which gives him excellent credibility among young players. We’re very happy that he has joined the Canadiens organization,” said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin in a press release.
Richardson is 49 years old.
