The Canadiens seem to be one of the most perplexing teams in the NHL in this early season so far. Despite expectations being low this season, they’ve excelled in almost every aspect so far this season. Losses against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Los Angeles Kings have been offset by two fantastic performances against the Pittsburgh Penguins, which is no slouch of a team.

Now, they get to ride their momentum against an Atlantic opponent who has yet to record a win this season, having lost all five of their previous match ups. The Detroit Red Wings have seen their core turn in a very different direction than years past. Henrik Zetterberg is no longer part of the active roster following a back injury that forced him to retire. Petr Mrazek was moved to the Carolina Hurricanes in the off-season, and the youth movement has begun to take shape in Mo-Town, as Dylan Larkin and Anthony Mantha lead the rebuild.

Tonight for the Canadiens, the opportunity to take advantage of a struggling team is one they will benefit from taking two points, especially later on in the season when the playoff race becomes more pronounced.

It will be a special night for one Hab in particular, as Tomas Plekanec draws into his 1000th NHL game.

Antti Niemi will start his second game in a row, as Carey Price will be back on the bench following a flu that kept him out of the previous game. This shouldn’t be much concern for the team however, as Niemi was very good in the game against the Penguins. Price will get another night to recover ahead of match ups against the St. Louis Blues and the Ottawa Senators later in the week.
