Despite Cayden Primeau’s best efforts, the Canadiens couldn’t win a third game in a row on Tuesday, losing rather convincingly to the New Jersey Devils. Tonight, it’s Samuel Montembeault’s turn to take the crease in the three-goalie rotation, getting his first action since October 17.
The goaltender should be facing fewer chances than Primeau did earlier this week, and hopefully have an easier time than he did in his last start versus the Minnesota Wild. The Blue Jackets aren’t at the level of those teams, but unlike the past few seasons, they’re no pushover either.
It could come down to goaltending to decide this one between a Columbus team lead from the blue line and a Canadiens team that has better depth among the forward lines. One team will hold a 4-2-1 record at the end of the evening, and get to claim at least temporary status as one of the most surprising teams of the opening two weeks of action.
