Shaw was with the Anaheim Ducks and was placed on waivers after Anaheim claimed J.T. Brown.
Shaw has two goals and six assists in 42 games this season. He has 10 goals and 15 assists in 150 NHL games with Anaheim and the Florida Panthers.
He was likely claimed due to the opening the Canadiens have with Phillip Danault’s injury. The Habs also could have recalled Nikita Scherbak, Michael McCarron or Adam Cracknell from the Laval Rocket.
Shaw has a 47.1% Corsi For at even strength with the Ducks, which is right about average for the team. Shaw is 26 years old and 6’3, 208. He has averaged over 11 minutes a game this year.
UPDATE: The Canadiens have announced that Andrew Shaw has suffered a lower-body injury and is out indefinitely. Shaw will be re-evaluated in 7-10 days.
