Montreal Canadiens call up Nathan Beaulieu

Pop your collars, everyone, Beaulieu is back.

Earlier in the season, Beaulieu played two games with the Canadiens before being sent back down to the Bulldogs, ending his short stint with an assist and a +2 rating. Small sample size, I know, but he was solid during that time.

Beaulieu leads the Bulldogs defensemen with seven goals and 21 assists in 64 games.

As Andrew pointed out, the Canadiens were testing their depth with him, Greg Pateryn and Jarred Tinordi, and Beaulieu appears to have made it to the top of their call-up list.

It remains to be seen whether Emelin can be expected back any time soon, but the Habs calling up a prospect is not a great sign on that front.

Here’s a great interview EOTP did with Beaulieu back in January. He is considered one of the Canadiens’ top prospects. Here’s a writeup Bruce Peter did on him back in 2011, and a 2012 piece on him from Stephan Cooper.
