The Montreal Canadiens announced the players who will take part in the team’s rookie camp and will participate in two games against the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets next weekend at the Bell Centre.
Among the most interesting names are players who should be in the mix for NHL spots this season, namely Ivan Demidov and Oliver Kapanen. Both players played NHL playoff games last season, and have the inside track to claim a spot. Demidov, of course, is assured one. While it may seem strange to see Demidov in the camp, Lane Hutson was in a similar position last year and was part of the rookie camp roster.
Also invited are players who will get a real look at training camp this year, like Adam Engström and David Reinbacher as well as players who are on the NHL radar like Owen Beck, Florian Xhekaj, Filip Mešár, and Luke Tuch.
It will also be the first North American rookie camp experience for Jacob Fowler and Vinzenz Rohrer as both prepare for their first NHL camps later in the month. The camp will be led by the Laval Rocket coaching staff.
