After a scary injury on Saturday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, it was feared that Montreal Canadiens prospect David Reinbacher would be out long-term. The Canadiens defender was announced to be out five-to-six months after undergoing surgery on his left knee on Tuesday morning.

Reinbacher, 19, was drafted fifth overall by the Canadiens in the 2023 NHL Draft. He was set to start his first full professional season in North America. He played 46 games last season between HC Kloten in Switzerland and the Laval Rocket of the American Hockey League.

There was no additional update on Patrik Laine, who was injured a bit later in the first period. The 26 year-old was acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets on August 19, along with a 2026 second-round pick in exchange for defender Jordan Harris. He played only 18 games last season, and 73 over the last two seasons. He is under contract until the end of the 2025-26 season.
