For the third time this off-season, the Montreal Canadiens have traded a mainstay on the Laval Rocket roster. This time, it was Joshua Roy traded to the Utah Mammoth in return for defenceman Maksymilian Szuber.
Szuber is 23 and was drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 NHL Draft (#163 overall) by the Arizona Coyotes before their move to Utah. He is 6’3″, 201lbs and is a left-shot.
Last year was his third in the AHL, and one of his most productive seasons. He had 11 goals and 16 assists in 65 games with the Tuscon Roadrunners. He has played one NHL game in his career. He was born in Poland but represents German internationally.
This ends the up and down tenure of Joshua Roy in the Canadiens organization. There were high hopes after he was drafted in the fifth round of the 2021 Draft, but he never could secure a spot at the NHL level.
His time in the organization ends with six goal and five assists in 38 NHL games and 112 points (56 goals, 56 assists) in 145 AHL games.
Between Pascal Vincent leaving the organization and Roy, William Trudeau, and Luke Tuch being traded in the last week, the Rocket will certainly have a reset for next season as they await news of who the head coach will be.
