The Montreal Canadiens acquired goaltender Jake Allen from the St. Louis Blues Wednesday, along with a seventh-round pick in 2022.

In exchange, the Habs gave up a third and a seventh-round pick in this year’s upcoming draft. The third-round pick was acquired by the Habs in a trade that sent forward Ilya Kovalchuk to the Washington Capitals, while the seventh-round pick originally belonged to Chicago. The pick was involved in the deal that sent Andrew Shaw the other way.
Allen has spent his entire career with the Blues. He was drafted 34th overall in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft. In 289 career games, Allen has a record of 148-94-26 to go with a .927 save percentage and a 2.50 goals-against average. In the postseason, Allen is 11-12 with a 2.06 GAA and a .924 save percentage.
Despite an early exit in this year’s playoffs, Allen made five appearances going 2-2 with a 1.89 GAA.
The 30-year old netminder has one year left on a four-year, $17.4 million dollar contract he signed with the Blues in 2016, with an annual cap hit of $4.35 million.
Allen played his part of his junior career with the Montreal Junior where Dominique Ducharme and Joël Bouchard were part of the coaching staff.
