Montreal Canadiens acquire Christian Dvorak for 2022 first-round, 2024 second-round picks

The Montreal Canadiens have acquired centreman Christian Dvorak from the Arizona Coyotes, agreeing to part with their highest first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft (top-10 protected) and the Habs’ 2024 second-rounder to bring him in.

The 25-year-old Dvorak has played five years in the NHL, all for Arizona after being a second-round pick of the franchise in 2014. He has contributed 146 points in 302 games, 34 of them on the power play. He slowly grew into the role of a top-line player with the Coyotes, being one of their most trusted forwards last year.

The Coyotes pulled off a major deal before the 2021 NHL Draft, shipping Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland to the Vancouver Canucks for draft picks and several significant contracts. This latest move is another in that series of converting current NHL talent into draft picks, and that switch in plan is to the benefit of the Canadiens, who were desperate to make up for the losses of centremen Phillip Danault (free agency) and Jesperi Kotkaniemi (offer sheet) this off-season.

We’ll have more on what Dvorak brings to the team.
