Michael Chaput clears waivers

The Laval Rocket will finally get some reinforcements with the news that Michael Chaput cleared waivers, and will be assigned to the AHL.

Chaput was the fourth Canadiens forward to be placed on waivers since the season started, but the first one to clear. He has seven goals and three assists in 18 AHL games this season and then played 32 NHL games and had five assists.

He signed a two-year, two-way contract as an unrestricted free agent over the summer, and needed to clear waivers before being able to be assigned to the AHL.

The Rocket are in Utica tonight to face the Comets in the second of six straight road games that started last weekend. Xavier Ouellet will be playing his first game as captain.

There is no word whether Chaput will be in the lineup tonight, as the weather is not ideal in the Northeast. The Rocket play next on Friday in Binghamton.

UPDATE: The team says that Chaput will join them tomorrow, and will play this weekend.
