Marc Bergevin expects Max Pacioretty to be with the Canadiens in 2018-19
The general manager mentioned his captain during a media scrum on Saturday.
While meeting the press to discuss Friday night’s exchange of Alex Galchenyuk for Max Domi, Marc Bergevin discussed Max Pacioretty’s status for next season:
#Habs GM Marc Bergevin still has policy of not talking about contract negotiations but says at this point he expects captain Max Pacioretty to be back with the team next season. #HabsIO— Stu Cowan (@StuCowan1) June 16, 2018
Pacioretty had been rumoured to be available in trade with one year left on his contract, and as the season wound down it seemed unlikely that the captain would return after the summer. However, since then Pacioretty has publicly stated his desire to stay, and now Bergevin suggests he will may not be moved this off-season after all.
The possibility always exists that an offer will be made that brings about a trade, but the general manager is now on record saying that Pacioretty’s return is a likely scenario.
