Matt Taormina signs a two-year contract with the Montreal Canadiens

The Montreal Canadiens have made another minor-league acquisition, this time adding defenceman Matt Taormina to the roster of the Laval Rocket.

Taormina has been a Tampa Bay Lightning property for the last few seasons, and was part of the team that eliminated the Canadiens AHL affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps, in the playoffs.

He will help to fill out the defence that was left with few bodies once the Canadiens had tabled all of their qualifying offers. The left-handed player also helps on that side of the ice after the organizational depth was left in shambles after transactions around the expansion draft.

He will become one of the top players in Laval, and will likely see a few games with the Canadiens next season.
