The Montreal Canadiens and defenceman Mark Streit have agreed on a one-year contract for the upcoming season.

Streit began his career in Montreal after being drafted by the Canadiens in 2004. Since then he’s had stops with the New York Islanders, Philadelphia Flyers, and most recently claiming the Stanley Cup with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
He has been an offensive blue-liner in his career, with 434 points in 784 regular-season games. Nearly half of those (207) have come on the power play, and that is where his value to the team will come from next year.

His most productive season came as a member of the Habs, posting 62 points in 2007-08 (34 with the man advantage), beginning a run of seven seasons registering better than half a point per game. The offence has fallen away markedly over the last few seasons, with just 23 and 27 points in his last two campaigns, with 21 power-play points in that time.
The deal is worth $700,000.
