The Laval Rocket announced that Lucas Condotta has been named captain of the team. His alternates will be Brandon Gignac and Tyler Wotherspoon.

Condotta is the fifth captain in team history, after Byron Froese, Xavier Ouellet, Alex Belzile, and Gabriel Bourque. Condotta, 26, will be entering his third full season with the Rocket. The only games that he has missed over the last two seasons have been while he was called up with the Montreal Canadiens. He played in all 72 games in 2022-23, and 65 games last year.

“I asked a million questions to a million people and the unanimous answer was always, Condotta. What stands out about him is his effort on the ice, his inclusivity and proximity with every player, his respect for the staff and the jersey. He is someone who will make everyone around him better, and that’s the ultimate quality of a great leader,” said Laval Rocket head coach Pascal Vincent.

Gignac, also 26, brings a lot of experience and will be counted on to be one of the team’s top players. This will be his fourth season with the Rocket. He has played 285 career AHL games.

Wotherspoon, 31, is entering his first season with the Rocket. He has played 616 career AHL games over 12 seasons and will be the most experienced player on the team.

The Rocket’s season starts Friday night when they take on the Providence Bruins on the road. Their home opener will be October 18.
