Tonight is the first round of the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. It takes place at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, California and gets underway shortly after 7:00 p.m. Eastern (Sportsnet, ESPN, TVA Sports).

It is the first decentralized draft the NHL is hosting. Team management groups will not be in Los Angeles, and only top prospects will be on site.

There has already been one trade, with the Montreal Canadiens expected to trade the 16th and 17th picks to the New York Islanders for Noah Dobson so they can move up to draft James Hagens along with their first overall pick, expected to be Matthew Schaefer. That didn’t happen, with Hagens being taken by the Boston Bruins.

The Dobson trade was made official before the 16th pick.

One trade that was made official on the draft floor was Pittsburgh trading the 12th overall pick to Philadelphia for picks 22 and 31.

Keep updated here as we will update the draft picks (and the draft order, if there are any more trades) in real time.

After Matthew Schaefer at #1, there are a lot of different directions the draft can go in.
