Ann-Sophie Bettez and Marie-Philip Poulin, two of the CWHL’s leading scorers were named to Canada’s roster for the upcoming Rivalry Series in February.
They were among the six Canadiennes named to the 23-player roster. The Rivalry Series is a three-game set between Canada and the United States that will take place February 12-17 in London, Toronto, and Detroit.
The Canadiennes contingent is rounded out by Jill Saulnier, Emerance Maschmeyer, Geneviève Lacasse, and Erin Ambrose. Bettez, Lacasse and Ambrose were not on Canada’s roster at the 4 Nations Cup.
For Bettez, it is her first appearance at the senior national team level. Her last appearance was in 2010 at the MLP Cup with the Under-22 development program. She is closing in on second place in all-time CWHL scoring. This season, she has 15 goals and 16 assists in 19 games to sit in third in league scoring.
It is also the return to the National team for Erin Ambrose. Ambrose joined Montreal last season after being cut from the 2018 Olympic roster and has been dominant. She has seven goals and 31 assists (37 points) in 35 games with Les Canadiennes. This season, her five goals and 17 assists is good enough for sixth in CWHL scoring. No other defender has more than 18 points.
Lacasse just returned from a lower-body injury and earned a shutout in her first game back.
Les Canadiennes have two games on February 16 and 17 and will be without these six players, and likely Hilary Knight as well. Marie-Soleil Deschênes, fresh off her appearance at the Canadiens skills competition, will likely draw in for those games. They play the Worcester Blades.
