Les Canadiennes announced today that they will be returning to the Bell Centre for the second straight year.
On November 11, they will be facing off against one of the two new Chinese teams in the CWHL, the Kunlun Red Star at the hallowed arena prior to that evening’s Montreal Canadiens and Buffalo Sabres game. The game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
Last year’s game was between the defending Clarkson Cup champions Calgary Inferno, who ended up playing the Canadiennes in the Clarkson Cup for the second straight year, this time with Montreal coming out on top. 5,938 fans attended the first women’s hockey game in the arena.
The Kunlun Red Star are led by a couple of huge women’s hockey stars in their own right, led by American Olympian Kelli Stack and Finnish goaltending star Noora Räty.
“After a successful inaugural game last season, we're looking forward to once again hosting Les Canadiennes at the Bell Centre this year," said Canadiens owner, president and CEO, Geoff Molson in a press release. "This represents another way for us to work with Les Canadiennes to help grow the game both within the province of Quebec and at the international level."
“The CWHL is thrilled to be hosted at the Bell Centre again this year for a game featuring our newest team from China, the Red Star, playing against our reigning Clarkson Cup Champions Les Canadiennes," said CWHL commissioner, Brenda Andress in the release. "With international superstars on both sides, we can't wait to showcase our league at the home of the Montreal Canadiens. We are so grateful for their continued support and commitment to growing the women's game."
It should be noted that after Les Canadiennes beat the Inferno 1-0 at the Bell Centre last year, the Habs beat the Colorado Avalanche 10-1.
Tickets will start at $15 and will be available for purchase as of October 2, at 10:00 a.m. They will be sold at canadiens.com.
