Les Canadiennes de Montreal Player Profile: Sophie Brault

Sophie Brault wasn't on the original Training Camp roster for Les Canadiennes de Montreal, but came back in time for the team's scrimmage against Concordia University and their final two pre-season games.

As a rookie last year, Brault was a fixture on a back-end that was otherwise in flux for most of the season. She played 21 of the 24 league games and earned three assists, finishing with a goal differential of +2.

Brault began playing hockey at the age of three. She studied Human Resources and Operations Management at HEC Montréal.

Brault played her college hockey at the University of Montreal and was a key part of their 2012-13 CIS Championship.

She assisted on Canadiennes teammate Kim Deschenes' championship-winning goal for UdeM versus the University of Calgary Dinos. Brault was named to the CIS Second All-Star team and was named not only the Carabins' women's hockey player of the year, but also the university's student athlete of the year that season.

That 2012-13 season was her best in her four years at UdeM. She led all Quebec conference defenders in scoring with 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 20 games.  In 75 games over four years, she had nine goals and 40 assists for 49 CIS career points.

Brault was a key part of the Carabins' impressive three-year run of qualifying for the National Final, with the team finishing second in the 2011-12 and 2013-14 championships.

With her return to Les Canadiennes,  the team now has seven defenders on the roster. Considering four of the seven are already converted forwards, she gives them more flexibility should any injuries occur during the season.
