Despite having one of the loudest crowds in the AHL, the Rocket couldn't make use of the home-ice advantage as they fell behind early and struggled with Utica's neutral-zone trap for the first half of the game. The Rocket found ways to get into the offensive end later in the contest, but shots were either telegraphed and blocked, turned aside by Nico Daws, or clanged off posts.

Laval now faces elimination in just its second post-season game, on the verge of being knocked out in the best-of-three play-in series. Their best hope is to get on the board early and force the Comets to press the attack rather than sliding into what is clearly a comfortable defensive posture.
