Laval Rocket sign Miguël Tourigny to AHL contract

Sebastien Gervais

The Laval Rocket have signed defender Miguël Tourigny to a one-year AHL contract for the 2023-24 season.

Tourigny was drafted in the seventh round by the Canadiens at the 2022 NHL Draft. Because of his QMJHL experience, he chose to play last season in Slovakia and had five goals and 19 assists in 39 games with HK Ducla Trencin.

The 21-year-old is 5’8″, 170 lbs and follows the path set before him by Rafaël Harvey-Pinard and Xavier Simoneau who were older players drafted by the Canadiens and signed AHL contracts before their NHL contracts started.

The Canadiens have Tourigny’s NHL rights until June 2024, and will only have to make a decision on his entry-level contract by the end of next season.

Eyes on the Prize has confirmed that Tourigny will not join the team for the playoffs. There was precedent with players who played professionally in Europe skating with the team, including Jesse Ylönen and Emil Heineman.
