The Laval Rocket had the chance to wrap up their opening round at home, but were unable to seize that opportunity. They had to deal with Jet Greaves in the form he showed with the Columbus Blue Jackets at the end of the season, nearly single-handedly denying the Montreal Canadiens a playoff berth by pulling his team into the post-season with five regulation wins over the span of eight days. Laval was able to get the puck past him in the first two matches played in Cleveland, and need to keep that in mind if he looks unbeatable to start tonight’s game as well.

Both Metropolitan Division teams got a nice bit of rest after getting through the first round in five games. It will therefore be two relatively fresh squads that face off when the Washington Capitals attempt to keep their home record in these playoffs perfect when they battle the Carolina Hurricanes.

Las Vegas and Edmonton each trailed their opponent at one point in the division semifinals, but seemed to figure things out and rattled off a series of wins to close out their battles in six games. The Oilers were dominant in the final matches versus the Los Angeles Kings while the Golden Knights had three consecutive 3-2 wins over the Minnesota Wild, two of them in overtime. Edmonton should be feeling more confident after how it got to the second round, but Las Vegas was pushed hard in its six games and may be the more battle-tested side.
