The Canadiens have cut three players from training camp: Joshua Roy, Xavier Simoneau and Joe Vrbetic.
All three will go back to their junior teams.
Roy made a great first impression with the team through rookie camp and even the team’s scrimmage where he had two goals. The fifth-round pick will take what he did and look to become a top player in the QMJHL.
Simoneau was battling for a potential pro contract, but he will go back to junior for his 20-year-old season, similar to what the team decided to do with Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
Vrbetic was one of the goaltenders with the minor league group in camp. Now that a few days of camp have passed, the need for several extra goaltenders has gone away. He will look to have a full season after missing the 2020-21 season as the OHL did not play.
There are now 68 players remaining in camp.
