Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele has been suspended for four games for Charging Montreal’s Jake Evans. https://t.co/MhMHK55lmC— NHL Player Safety (@NHLPlayerSafety) June 4, 2021
Evans was diagnosed with a concussion, the Canadiens confirmed on Thursday when interim head coach Dominique Ducharme spoke to the media. He is out indefinitely, and understandably will miss some time.
Dominique Ducharme confirms that Jake Evans is doing better, and was not hospitalized following an evaluation by team doctors. He will be out for an undetermined period of time.— Canadiens Montréal (@CanadiensMTL) June 3, 2021
This is Scheifele’s first suspension. He was also given a five-minute major for charging and a game misconduct with 57 seconds remaining in Wednesday’s Game 1, which Montreal won 5-3 to take a 1-0 series lead.
The suspension means Scheifele will miss Games 2 and 5 in Winnipeg, and Games 3 and 4 in Montreal at the Bell Centre. He will be eligible to return in Game 6 next Friday if the series goes that far.
The Jets lost Dylan DeMelo to a lower-body injury early in the first period, and Paul Stastny missed Game 1 with an injury of his own.
