The Montreal Canadiens have signed a contract extension with Vice President of Hockey Operations and Legal Affairs John Sedgwick on Wednesday.

The three-year extension will see Sedgwick stay with the club. He is known as the team’s Salary Cap expert and manager. He has been with the team since 2013.

John’s responsibilities include player contract negotiations and salary arbitrations, daily salary cap management and strategic planning, and the administration of all matters related to the NHL-NHLPA collective bargaining agreement.

Prior to joining the Canadiens, John was a member of the National Hockey League Hockey Operations Department in Toronto, where he worked from 2006 to 2013.

Sedgwick was heavily involved in the launch of the Laval Rocket, while also serving as the principal Governor for the Rocket with the American Hockey League. Along with General Manager Marc Bergevin, he also oversaw the establishment of the Canadiens’ new affiliation with the ECHL’s Trois-Rivières Lions.

Bergevin’s contract expires after next season, and Laval Rocket head coach Joël Bouchard will also need a new contract. It is expected that interim head coach Dominique Ducharme will also become the team’s permanent head coach.
