The Montreal Canadiens have assigned Charlie Lindgren to the American Hockey League’s Laval Rocket.

Lindgren will be available to play on Friday, and this likely means that Carey Price may be out longer than first anticipated. Cayden Primeau was Jake Allen’s backup on Wednesday. The team has not yet announced a starter for Thursday’s game.
Michael McNiven will be recalled to the team’s taxi squad. Rocket head coach Joël Bouchard said that the plan was to split McNiven — who played in the team’s last two games — and Vasili Demchenko. Likely that is still the plan but with Lindgren.
Lindgren was likely passed over by Primeau because his last game action was February 27. He is 1-1 in two AHL starts this year with a goals against average of 2.00 and save percentage of .875. He has yet to play in an NHL game this year.
Teams have to have a goaltender on the taxi squad at all times.
