The team plays the Edmonton Oilers Monday night at the Bell Centre. As expected, Jake Evans will be the first forward to sit out due to the addition of the veteran.
Staal, who was acquired from the Buffalo Sabres on March 27, skated for the first time on Sunday as the rest of the team had the day off.
He also joined the team’s power play practice, replacing Josh Anderson.

Brendan Gallagher, who was in pain on Saturday, was on the ice for morning skate and appears to be good to go.
Otto Leskinen, just recalled to the team’s taxi squad also had his first practice with the NHL team.
Carey Price will start, despite leaving practice early after taking a shot off of his hand.
#Habs Ducharme says Price will start tonight vs #Oilers despite taking a shot off his blocker hand that forced him to leave the morning skate early. @TSN_Edge
