The Montreal Canadiens have recalled defenceman Otto Leskinen to the team’s taxi squad on Monday.

After Xavier Ouellet and Gustav Olofsson were both sent back to the Rocket to get into game action, the team decided to recall the Finnish defender. He has been the team’s best defenceman this season, with one goal and 13 assists in 23 games. He is also a team high +13.

Leskinen has shown a renewed confidence in his play this season, jumping up in the play, and being an asset on the team’s power play. He has also been very solid defensively and has been relied on to lead the team’s young defenders.

He has been on the team’s top pairing for most of the season, and plays in all situations. Right now Victor Mete has a solid hold on the team’s third pairing with Alexander Romanov, but Leskinen can play both left and right sides despite being a left-handed shot.

He played five NHL games last season without earning a point.
