The Montreal Canadiens have started to trim their roster for the opening of the 2021 NHL season by placing nine players on waivers on Sunday.

The nine players were Brandon Baddock, Alex Belzile, Joseph Blandisi, Laurent Dauphin, Jordan Weal, Noah Juulsen, Gustav Olofsson, Xavier Ouellet, and Charlie Lindgren.

All nine players were practicing with Group B for most of the team’s training camp. Placing them on waivers on Sunday will allow them to be assigned to Laval Rocket training camp when it is expected to start next week or to join the team’s taxi squad when the season begins.

There are no real surprises on this list, as all of them were on the outside looking in. They will mostly play on Team White in the team’s scrimmage Sunday night. Teams will now have until noon on Monday to claim these players.

The Canadiens will still have to make some roster moves, but this is the bulk of players who will require waivers to play in the AHL or join the team’s taxi squad.
