The Montreal Canadiens will start their 2020-21 season against a familiar opponent. Montreal will start the season January 13 at Scotiabank Arena against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The NHL released the 2020-21 schedule on Wednesday. All teams will play 56 games, and the Canadiens will play exclusively against Canadian teams. The Canadiens head West following their game against the Maple Leafs, finishing a six-game road trip with two games in Edmonton and three in Vancouver.

Their first home game is scheduled for January 28 against the Calgary Flames. Their opening homestand will consist of five games against Vancouver and Ottawa.

Their first matchups against the Winnipeg Jets will be February 25 and 27 when the Canadiens head to Manitoba. The Jets make their first trip to Montreal in early March.

Montreal has one four-game stretch against the Senators from March 28-April 3, with the first and last games in Montreal and the middle two in Ottawa. The Canadiens will also have four three-game series in 2020-21, including the one in Vancouver on their first road trip of the season. Other three-game series are March 22-26 at home against Edmonton, and April 22-26 in Calgary.

The regular season will end with three games against the Maple Leafs, with one at home, followed by back-to-back games in Toronto on May 7 and 8.

Montreal has 11 sets of back-to-back games, eight of which are part of three games in four nights. Their busiest period is April 3-10 which will see them with five games in seven days.
