Christian Folin signed a one-year contract he was offered by the Montreal Canadiens today. The contract is worth $800,000 against the cap.

Folin impressed during his time with the Canadiens after he was acquired from Philadelphia Flyers just before the trade deadline. He had two assists in his 26 games with the Flyers and registered four assists in his 19 games with Montreal after the trade. He had a positive 51.2 5v5 Corsi For%, and played close to 16 minutes a game. The Swedish defender was mainly used five on five, and barely saw any time on the special teams.

Christian Folin was going to be an unrestricted free agent on July 1 and in regards to his age he would have looked for an NHL deal rather than a two-way deal. A one-year contract with the organization will give Folin a chance to build upon his start and prove that he can be a fit in the Montreal system.
