Montreal Canadiens recall Dale Weise

As expected, Weise will join the team in New Jersey

The Montreal Canadiens made news early on the day of the NHL’s Trade Deadline - no not that kind of news - by recalling Dale Weise from the Laval Rocket.

Weise will join the team in New Jersey at the team’s morning skate ahead of their game against the Devils. Weise played both games this weekend with the Laval Rocket against the Manitoba Moose, scoring a short handed goal on Saturday.

The NHL lifts its roster limits at the Trade Deadline so no corresponding move will need to be made. The rule is in place to allow teams to acquire players at the deadline without moving any players around.

All players eligible for the AHL playoffs also need to be transferred to the AHL roster today (effectively a “paper transaction”). The AHL does not allow any players in the playoffs who are not on the AHL roster today.

Weise has played three games with the Canadiens this season recording no points. He had five goals and six assists in 42 games with the Philadelphia Flyers. He has three goals and one assist in six AHL games.
