The Montreal Canadiens have recalled Riley Barber from the AHL’s Laval Rocket.
After not getting a shot in the Washington Capitals organization, Montreal signed Barber in the off-season as a free agent, though he still had to begin his season in the AHL. He had a poor start with the Laval Rocket, but his game has really been coming along in recent weeks, becoming a major contributor on offence for the minor-league team.
With some injuries on the wing, the Canadiens had been turning to Charles Hudon to provide minutes in a replacement role. His game on Friday was the ninth since he cleared waivers at the start of the season, meaning waivers would be required again if he played another game in the NHL. That situation allows Barber to get his shot, and we’ll see what he’s able to do with it starting on Tuesday night.
