Montreal Canadiens call up Charlie Lindgren

The goalie will replace Cayden Primeau who was sent down.

After losing to the Rochester Americans last night, the Montreal Canadiens have recalled Charlie Lindgren from the Laval Rocket, and sent Cayden Primeau to the Laval Rocket.

Lindgren already has 18 games in the NHL, with an 8-8-2 record. He has a 2.89 goals against average and a .912 save percentage. Fourteen of his 18 games came in the 2017-18 season.

This season in the AHL, he has a 7-6-2 record in 15 starts with a 2.67 goals against average and .893 save percentage. Lindgren was signed during the 2015-16 season as an undrafted free agent from St. Cloud State. He made his NHL debut that same season.

The two goaltenders in Laval, Primeau and Lindgren, and then Keith Kinkaid have been alternating starts in the AHL since the start of the season, but Lindgren started two straight games after leaving last Saturday’s game with an injury.

Primeau played well in his two starts in the NHL, but likely this is to get Primeau in some games. Laval plays at 3:00 Saturday afternoon and it is likely Primeau will start that game over Keith Kinkaid while Lindgren backs up Carey Price as the Canadiens face the Red Wings.
