Quotes and highlights from the Montreal Canadiens golf tournament

A busy night leads to an interesting day to open the Habs season

Shanna Martin / Eyes on the Prize

The Montreal Canadiens opened their season with their annual golf tournament and Max Pacioretty was the main subject, just not in the way we expected 24 hours ago.

Marc Bergevin was the first one to talk, and the trade he made this morning was front and centre (no pun intended).

The team will not name a new captain immediately.

Marc Bergevin says that Pacioretty did indeed ask for a trade.

Bergevin wanted an ‘A’ prospect and had to push McPhee to trade Suzuki, repeating his ‘you need to give to get’ mentality.

Geoff Molson came out and said that Pacioretty did ask for a trade as well.

Molson says that he trusts Bergevin to lead the Canadiens into the future.

Molson also said it was “clear” Pacioretty wanted to leave Montreal.

Claude Julien says that he had no issue with Max Pacioretty

We have an injury update on Paul Byron and Andrew Shaw. Byron could be ready for camp while Shaw is awaiting the green light for contact.

Phillip Danault wants to be a leader for the Canadiens with their captain departing.

Renaud Lavoie reports that Marc Bergevin said that less than five teams were interested in Pacioretty.

Carey Price says that he hopes for the best for the former captain.

Shea Weber doesn’t want to talk about the captaincy.
