With an injury to Victor Mete in New York, the Canadiens were in need of another body on defence.

Despite a lopsided margin of victory Friday night in Brooklyn, the Montreal Canadiens lost defenceman Victor Mete to a hand injury late in the first period. The rookie defender was sent home to Montreal ahead of the game tomorrow evening in Boston.

In response, the Canadiens made the move to recall defender Rinat Valiev from the Laval Rocket, just after he made his debut for the Habs’ AHL club.

In 41 games this year, Valiev has five goals and 11 assists. Since joining the Rocket he collected one assist, on a Kerby Rychel power-play goal.

Valiev will meet the team in Boston, as Laval heads out on the road to New York for two more games this weekend.
