This news comes two days before the National Hockey League trade deadline on Monday afternoon. Bergevin's job is reportedly safe, regardless of how deadline day goes for the Canadiens.
Centre Tomas Plekanec was a healthy scratch for the Canadiens ahead of their clash against the Tampa Bay Lightning Saturday. Forwards Max Pacioretty, Andrew Shaw, and Alex Galchenyuk have also been subject to trade rumours in the last few days.
Bergevin has already parted with a player in the last week. He dealt recent free agent acquisition Jakub Jerabek to the Washington Capitals in exchange for a fifth-round draft pick in 2019.
Bergevin is under contract with the Canadiens until 2022, after having his contract extended in 2015.
This is the second season in three years that the Habs will miss the playoffs.
