After being placed on waivers yesterday to make room for Noah Juulsen’s return, Xavier Ouellet has gone unclaimed, and can be assigned to the Montreal Canadiens’ AHL affiliate in Laval.

During training camp, Ouellet had been in a battle with Simon Després for the final spot on defence, winning out to start the year in Montreal. Now, with Després on a professional tryout with the Laval Rocket, the two will be reunited once again.

Ouellet played 19 of the 29 games while he was in Montreal, registering three assists with no goals from his 32 shots.

The roster move adds another defenceman to the Rocket, bringing their total to 10 healthy bodies on the blue line. It gives Joël Bouchard plenty of combinations to work with, and he’ll hope to find a good one after going 1-6-2 in the previous nine games.
