The forward has yet to play a regular season game this year, being held out of the team’s season-opening road trip after suffering a “cardiac episode”. His last game was in the team’s final pre-season matchup with the Ottawa Senators on September 29.
De la Rose played in 55 games last season with the Canadiens, scoring four goals and adding eight assists. It was his first full season at the NHL level. He also won a gold medal at the most recent World Hockey Championships with Team Sweden, where he was one of the team’s trusted centres.
In 119 career NHL games, he has eight goals and 11 assists. He was selected with the 34th overall pick in the second round of the 2013 NHL Draft.
He will now join Detroit’s NHL roster.
