Brett Lernout sent down to the Laval Rocket

The defenceman should be expected to play tonight

The Montreal Canadiens have sent defenceman Brett Lernout to the Laval Rocket.

Lernout was originally sent down after the loss to the Edmonton Oilers, his season debut in the NHL. He was recalled for the post-holiday road trip when the team faced the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning after David Schlemko did not make the trip.

Schlemko returned for the game against the Florida Panthers and Lernout has been a healthy scratch since. In his three games, he had no points, and was a -1.

The Rocket play tonight as they host the Toronto Marlies. It may be possible that the Canadiens recall him in time for their game on Thursday against the Tampa Bay Lightning or go into that game with six defencemen.
