The rookie will likely play tonight as an emergency recall

The Montreal Canadiens announced this morning that they have recalled defenceman Mikhail Sergachev from Windsor of the Ontario Hockey League.

Sergachev and his Spitfires were eliminated from the OHL playoffs last week when they lost game seven to the London Knights. Windsor is hosting the Memorial Cup so his Junior season may not be over yet.

The Canadiens announced last night that Andrei Markov would not make the trip to Detroit on top of Shea Weber and Alexei Emelin who did not play last night against Tampa Bay. Jordie Benn, who has been out of action, made the trip but either he or someone else must not be ready to go tonight.

Of note, with the Habs in Detroit, and the IceCaps in New York playing three games in three days, Sergachev was the closest and perhaps most convenient recall the Habs could make this morning.

Sergachev has played three NHL games this season, and does not have a point. He had 10 goals and 33 assists in 50 games for Windsor this season and added three points in seven playoff games (one goal, two assists).
